Weapons stolen from Basic Law Enforcement Training complexNovember 10, 2010 HALIFAX COUNTY CRIME NEWS: A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those individuals involved in the burglary of the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) complex, Halifax Community College, Weldon, North Carolina. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has offered the reward to the public in hopes of resolving the theft. Sometime between the dates of July 23 and July 26, 2010, unknown persons broke into the BLET complex and stole eighteen firearms including seventeen handguns and one shotgun. The stolen firearms were housed on the premises for purpose training. The BLET program provides law enforcement officer certification in North Carolina for employment at the state, county, or municipal level, and is controlled by the North Carolina Department of Justice, Criminal Justice Standards Division. Halifax Community College is one of the state’s accredited BLET training academy sites.
